An Act of Self-Love

To emphasize, Mental Health America (MHA) observes May for Mental Health Awareness month and has a yearly theme of Fitness #4Mind4Body. Thus, during the month of May, MHA focuses on what we as individuals can achieve to be fit for our own futures – no matter where others happen to be in their own personal journey to health and wellness.

With this in mind, being a pioneer clinician of the mind-body-spirit movement, I've been facilitating people to discover fulfillment in their lives for many years through an extensive integrative health toolbox. With total wellness as my foundation, I have witnessed so many clients benefit from slowing down and relaxing to gain a sense of clarity, happiness and well-being. Unfortunately, I’ve also worked with many behavioral health professionals and interdisciplinary teams that experienced burnout due to lack of overall health and well-being. Compassionately, I have dedicated this year to focus on the health and well-being of behavioral health professionals in need for self-care.

Likewise, allied health professionals (social workers, counselors, psychologists, nurses, coaches and physicians) alike, advises the client to manage their needs and to recognize the consequences of failing to do so. Yet, they are often the last to care for themselves! We are all guilty of negating self for various reasons due to our high demanding psychotherapy profession. Unfortunately, it’s a negative factor we obtain working as professional healers. For instance, prolonged neglect undermines healthy clinical practices that sometimes can lead to walking away from your chosen profession.  

Most importantly, the need to engage in self-care continues to be a pressing concern for allied health professionals. Listen up, if this message is speaking to you, I urge you to start taking small steps to heal yourself.
